Frequently asked questions
- 01Fresh hop garlands are available once we start the hop harvest. This depends on what the weather is like over the summer but generally they are available late August and the first 2/3 weeks of September. As this is such a small window we recommend pre -purchasing once they are available on the website and we will then send them out to you when they are at their very best.If there are dates when you will not be around to receive your order you can add this to your order or email us separately and we can work around it.Another way to avoid missing them is to subscribe to our website and you will receive an email update of when we expect them to be ready to send out. We send these newsletters late summer. When the garlands are at their very best we dry several batches on our traditional hop kiln. These are then boxed and stored so that they are available out of "fresh hop" season.
- 02If you have timed it right and fresh garlands are available we generally advise to buy a fresh hop garland. They are easier to handle and once you receive it you can hang it straight away. Always use dust sheets to cover carpets and furniture as they contain oils/pollen that can stain, also long sleeves and gloves are advisable as the stems are scratchy. If you are not able to buy a fresh garland in season you do have the option of using a dried garland. As they have been dried to preserve them you will get bits dropping as you put them up but once up in situ they will be fine. The dried garlands are still green in colour just a bit paler than a fresh one would have been. They are the colour that a fresh one would go once its been hung for about a month and dried out.
